Monterey’s 2019 Caramel Art Walk
On the second Saturday of every month, take the chance to stroll through artist-owned galleries during the Carmel Art Walk. Not only is this the perfect opportunity to explore great art, but it’s also visitors’ chance to meet artisans from Monterey and Carmel-by-the-Sea– for free. The next Carmel Art Walk will be on Apr 13 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tour over 16 different galleries as you follow the blue lanterns through the city. Steven Whyte’s Sculpture Studio is one of the galleries on the tour. As an internationally known sculptor, Whyte’s work comes alive with his ability to capture fine details and character. For classy glass art, stop by K. Little Glass. Specializing in all things glass, this is the perfect place for workshops and live demonstrations. Be swept away by the sea with Delia Bradford’s iconic seascape paintings. Her paintings are lively and colorful. Be sure to check out the full listing of galleries and a map of the Carmel Art Walk before attending.
Historic Walking Tours
As you’re walking the streets during Carmel Art Walk, look for sites of the Historic Walking Tour. Stop in “The First Murphy House” for a map of all the notable historic buildings in the area. Some highlights on this tour include the Cottage of Sweets & Court of the Golden Bough. This picturesque abode looks like a fairytale and is home to scrumptious sweets! La Bicyclette used to house a local pharmacy but now is a French-Italian bistro that offers a cozy atmosphere and a weekly-changing menu. Be sure to also stop by the House of Hansel and Gretel. The builder of this cottage made it for his wife’s doll collection and eventually turned it into a popular attraction for visitors and locals alike.
Nearby Fine Dining
End your evening of fine art with fine dining! There are a couple great restaurants near the art galleries that are definitely worth a reservation. One of these spots include La Balena, known for their daily changing artisanal Italian dishes, paired with wines. Their Pollo Panini, made with grilled locally sourced chicken, tomato sauce and Parmesan cheese, is highly recommended and quite tasty! For a casual Mediterranean corner café, try Yafa Restaurant. Their Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes are truly unique and a piece of art. Try homemade hummus and pita bread paired with the Yafa Pasta. Looking for a nice place to grab a pint with a great view? Starlight Rooftop Lounge offers just that with a unique collection of mixed drinks, cocktails and local beer atop a spacious rooftop terrace.
